Pitting the BMW i8 against the M4 is nothing new seeing as though it has been done before, but this time the challenge is a little different. In the previous battle it was the I8 that came out victorious, but that was in a drag race, and we know the hybrid has a great deal of torque thanks to its electric motors.
Many of you that watched the video agreed that they would love to see what the BMW i8 Vs M4 outcome would be while being driven in anger around a race track. Autocar writer Steve Sutcliffe has driven both around the Castle Combe Circuit, although we still don’t get to see the outright winner.
We know the video is plugged as the BMW i8 Vs M4 track battle, but we never get to see Sutcliffe giving the cars the full beans, and so neither of them set a time.
However, we do get to see how the two coupes perform on a track together rather than just a drag race. This is particular interesting because it is not very often you or I will find an empty piece of road to see how fast you can go with a limited amount of space.
What we do find interesting is how the i8 starts to run out of electric power at the front, and so limits its performance, which shows its weakness when pitted against the M4 and its full-on gasoline engine.
Check out the video below and you will see just what we mean.
