BMW 1 Series M Coupe: More Details Ahead Of Detroit Auto Show

As we approach the festive season what delights do we expect to encounter for the new year? Well some of us will be looking forward to the Detroit Auto Show and what it has to offer. In preparation for its public appearance at the show, BMW has given us a few more details on its M-powered 1 Series Coupe.

Bringing things back to basics, the 1 Series will not be powered by the current M3’s V8, but by the 3.0-litre six-cylinder, twin-turbo unit found in BMW’s Z4 sDrive35iS. This powerplant will give the coupe 340 bhp, and will supply these horses to the road via a six-speed manual transmission.

Weighing in at around 3,300 pounds, this level of power will make the 1 Series M Coupe a lively prospect. We should see a full release sometime in December, with the public unveiling set for the Detroit Auto Show at the start of January. Prices are expected to be around the $45,000 mark, which will place the car somewhere between BMW’s current 135i and its big brother the M3. To see some updated pictures check out BMW M division.
