It’s clear to see that the new Blackberry Z10 has been getting a mixed review from consumer and analysts, but for the most part it has been pretty well received. While we have yet to receive specific sales figures from BlackBerry, we’re told that the Z10 has had the best day 1 sales of any of their previous handsets.
We’ve already had a look at several reviews, but we wanted to look at two key features that consumers find very important, and that is the Z10 screen and camera, and looking over a review of the test the results seems to be a little mixed. The display that BlackBerry went with on the Z10 is 4.2 inches, so placed nicely in the range of other 4-5-inch devices already on the market, and the use of IPS helps to maintain a decent viewing angle.
While the contrast levels are said to be decent, it’s another story when it comes to brightness levels, as the Z10 is 20-30 percent lower than most other smartphones, which is a shame because it lets the contrast levels down. Color fidelity is also said to be sub-standard, so taking all this into consideration there is a distinct lack of details with the darker tones. More on the results here.
When it comes to the camera on the Z10 the first thing that you’ll notice is that there isn’t a physical camera button, along with the fact that the autofocus seems to struggle a little, so if you’re looking to take some spur of the moment shots then forget it. We’re not saying that the autofocus is slow, far from it, but it can often be a little too fast.
Overall we’re told that image quality is said to be better than both the iPhone 5 and the Galaxy S3, which if true is a good result and shows that BlackBerry has made some strides in the use of a camera on their handsets. Let’s not forget about the camera software itself, as it has a great social function, which we have recently discussed.
Let’s hope that the BlackBerry Z10 is well received once it hits the US market, as it would be a shame for the Canadian phone maker to fail with their new device in such an important market.
