As if the anticipation of the Blackberry PlayBook tablet being released soon wasn’t enough, RIM has to announce more exciting news. The Blackberry manufacturer is to launch an app with the tablet similar to that of FaceTime.
The app is being referred to as BlackBerry video conferencing, and according to a RIM executive is expected to be available either come launch day with the tablet or not long after. Rumors suggest that the PlayBook will be out April 10th although nothing official has been announced yet.
The fact that BlackBerry are to include the use of video conferencing may not be a surprise to some people who would have worked it out from the front and rear-facing cameras the tablet has, but as the article by Al Sacco at PCWorld explains what was uncertain was whether BlackBerry would use Skype or other app as opposed to their own version for this feature.
The app will work similarly to FaceTime in the way that you will be able to video call those who also have the app over the network. As Blackberry mobiles do not have a front-facing camera the app is not likely to be compatible with them yet.
