BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0 set for CES 2012, release date MIA

We recently told you that the price of the BlackBerry PlayBook had been slashed in the US, and then similar cuts were made in UK retailers. Today we have news that the BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0 is set to be showcased at CES 2012, but a release date is still unknown.

One of the biggest criticisms of the PlayBook has been its operating system, and the features it lacks. Now RIM has announced it will be showing off version 2.0 of its operating for the much maligned BlackBerry PlayBook. The company will then be showing of its BlackBerry 10 operating system a month later in February at the Mobile World Congress according to Digital Trends.

The company has starting to send out invitations to an “intimate event” that will take place at CES 2012 in Las Vegas. Unfortunately RIM has not said when either of these software updates will be made available, as currently they are only set to showcase the operating systems.

With the BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0 it would be nice if the company could announce a concrete release date for the software. At first it was believed to be available shortly after the device was first released, but since then we have seen numerous delays. The last rumored release was thought to be in February, so with it being showcased next week that is still a possibility.

Considering the recent price cuts if RIM could release the update early it would probably boost sales, as well as pleasing many current users of the device. Are you fed up waiting for the OS update?

Happy to wait for Playbook O.S2 as I know they have to get it spot on and can’t avoid any stuff ups. Overall it should be very good and worth waiting for.

I think I am fed up waiting for the two morons who are driving a perfectly good company into the ground to resign. Do they work for Apple?
Why do the shareholders not sack the two of them before it is too late.

At $199 the playbook has been a steal — I’m loving it!  Looking forward to the OS upgrade so I can have access to more apps — the browser is so good I just check my gmail so email has not been an issue.  At this point I’m considering picking up a 32G model as well for my wife — two for the price of one ipad.  Both my brothers have ipad 2s and they are impressed by my playbook — they blame bad marketing by RIM (and bad initial pricing) for its lack of success.
