This Summer is set to be a very exciting one for fans of BlackBerry Messenger. The hugely popular free messaging service has now been confirmed for a cross-platform release on iOS and Android, with BlackBerry initially confirming that a download would become available this Summer.
Now it looks like there is some movement on when the exact date may be, although mixed with a fair amount of confusion as well. While BlackBerry has remained silent on their Summer availability, T-Mobile UK has taken it upon themselves to announce on Twitter that BlackBerry Messenger would be going live on June 27.
That is obviously somewhat strange for a carrier to announce something as big as that, before BlackBerry themselves have the chance to announce a date. With that in mind, it’s unsurprising to see T-Mobile’s Twitter message now vanish completely off the face of the Twittersphere.
To add further confusion though, an additional report over at BusinessInsider suggests that the June 27 date is completely wrong anyway according to their sources. BlackBerry meanwhile have said that they have nothing else to share and will reveal the information when the time is right.
Either T-Mobile know the date and made a big mistake, or something is missing here. It seems strange for T-Mobile UK to just come out of nowhere though and reveal a June 27 date – what do you think? We have a feeling it could be accurate information, but we’ll have to wait and see what happens.
One thing we do know though, is that it will be fantastic for current BlackBerry users to be able to message non-BlackBerry users for free this Summer. If you are keeping an eye out for the download on iOS and Android, let us know your thoughts on the surprise June 27 date.
