A new feature is on the way to Battlefield 3, but it is probably not the feature that you were expecting to see. The game is still missing crucial balance changes, not to mention the highly sought after Battlerecorder, but DICE has just announced that they are adding Matches to the game which will allow for more competitive gameplay.
DICE has made no secret of their attempts to make Battlefield 3 a competitive first person shooter in mould of say Counter-Strike 1.6. While this feature is a nice addition to the game, the majority of the Battlefield 3 community will argue that it is a completely unneeded feature at this time, particularly since there are other pressing matters that still haven’t been addressed.
Personally, we would much rather see a fix for the constant sound cut outs on Davamand Peak or the frequent hard crashes which occur when playing on Gulf of Oman. This is of course on top of the ongoing complaints about the lack of official servers which are being overrun by custom rented servers, but unfortunately DICE’s priorities do not match ours, or yours.
Matches are going to be available for server admins who are currently renting a server for the game. Available on all three platforms, you’ll now be able to customize your server to set up matches using Battlelog, akin to that of a 5v5 type of war that you may be familiar with on other FPS games.
You can select a specific start time for your server to automatically go into match mode, to which the server will then load out all of your match settings, such as which map, toggle friendly fire on or off and which type of game mode you want to play for your match. It’s a nice idea for sure, but we just wish they would fix some of the more important issues in the game first and then focus on these nice little additions.
What has happened to the Battlerecorder too? PC players have been waiting for this feature to land for months, but we haven’t heard any official word on this for many weeks now. We know DICE are working on it and sure it must take considerable time to get it right, but how hard would it be to give a little timeline or even a screenshot to show the community that it is definitely a priority.
All we see now is the constant plugging of Premium and this matches feature is essentially another feature that is only available if you pour even more money into the game. Are we being a bit harsh towards DICE here, or do you agree with us that that they should concentrate on fixing up other areas of the game first? Let us know your thoughts on this in the comments.
