If you previously were not that interested about the upcoming Back to Karkand expansion pack for Battlefield 3, then a new trailer that EA has released should change your mind accordingly. This one shows off some solid gameplay from Strike at Karkand and to say it looks good is a definite understatement.
If you have been following our coverage of the Back to Karkand map pack, you will have probably seen the great gameplay clips already released for Gulf of Oman and a previous look at Strike at Karkand.
The main purpose of this new video however, is DICE’s obvious tease of all the new weapons that will be featured in the pack – there’s 10 in total and the trailer gives a good look at some of them in action, for very brief periods anyway. If you skip to 1.10 for example, you’ll see the new QBU-88 auto sniper rifle in action, and straight after that we get a first look at the FAMAS – another weapon that will be new to the game.
The exciting aspect of all these new weapons and vehicles is that once you have ‘unlocked’ them by using the new Assignments mode that will come included with Back to Karkand, you will get to use them in the main multiplayer of BF3. One important thing to be aware of though, is that we’re hearing that the new weapons will still be accessible for players who don’t buy the Back to Karkand expansion pack. We’re guessing that the same concept applies to the two new vehicles and one new jet as well then? – We’ll try to clarify this for you soon.
If you pay attention to the video, you’ll also see that there’s a lot more destruction featured on the Strike at Karkand map in particular. This is because DICE has actually added more destruction into the game and this will one feature that is ‘exclusive’ to the pack. Hopefully we’ll get some gameplay from Sharqi Peninsula and Wake Island to show you soon since we have already had a good look at the other two.
As a final reminder, this pack will be completely free for those of you who picked up the Limited Edition version of Battlefield 3. For those of you who did not, the pack will cost £11.99, $14.99, or 1200 points to obtain. Check out the awesome new footage and let us know your thoughts on it. Which aspect of Back to Karkand are you most excited about?
