There are not many new smartphones coming to Verizon this month, but we still need to gauge what we think will be the best in October 2011. There are two big boys that spring to mind, these are the iPhone 5 and the Nexus Prime, which is also known as the Nexus 3 or Droid. However, let’s not forget that these two are still rumored, as neither Apple nor Samsung have made any sort of announcements.
We already know so much about the new iPhone — well so we think. There is a lot we do not know as well, such as if it will be called the iPhone 5, 4S, release date, specs and what it will actually look like. These are also the same things that we know idea about with the next Nexus phone, but the smart money is that these rival handsets will be on Big Red sometime next month.
Next up we have the HTC Rhyme, while it is not in the league of the Nexus Prime or iPhone5/4S, it is still one that Verizon customers will want to get their hands on. What makes this handset different to the others is that it will be marketed with women in mind — which we know is a very good market. The carrier still does not give a release date on the sign-up page, but evidence seems to suggest October. This handset is not going to be lightning fast, as it will come with just a 1GHz single-core processor, 768MB of RAM and just 4GB of internal storage, expect to pay $199 on contract.
If you’re looking for a HTC phone with a little more power, then the Vigor could be it. The dual-core 1.5GHz processor should offer more performance than the upcoming iPhone, but it will be down to the UI to see if it can manage things as well as iOS 5 will? Latest rumors from Unwired View suggest an October 13, 2011 release.
We would have liked to put the Galaxy S II on to the October list, but it still seems as though Big Red will not be carrying the Samsung phone. You might wonder why we included the HTC Rhyme above as one of the best Verizon smartphones for October; just remember that there is more to these handsets than just the top-end models.
