Following on from the news we reported yesterday about the BBM app for iPhone starting its review process, it seems that a number of blogs have published details on the same news following our article but misunderstand how long it would take BlackBerry to clear BBM for Android.
The BBM Android app will have the same release date as iPhone’s iOS. So, if you have seen any blog posts in the last 24 hours stating that there is now a worry that this won’t be the case, just ignore them.
They misunderstand exactly what is going on behind the scenes and how long it takes to upload BBM for Android onto the Google Play store. Without any special privileges, Product Reviews Android apps took under 3 hours to go live on Google play after being submitted.
There is no manual review process as you will see with BBM for iPhone, so this is why the iOS version has been submitted well in advance. In fact, it would normally only take a week to go live on iTunes.
The report we published yesterday explains that the BBM for iPhone and iOS app was submitted 2 weeks ago, so it could be held back for a simultaneous release with BBM on Android or the process could take even longer for apps like this with Apple.
Bottom-line: we understand Android gets left in the dark sometimes with new apps, but BlackBerry has made it clear BBM will launch on Android and iOS. Thanks to the Google play process being hours and not days, you can expect both apps to go live together. Any website stating different clearly doesn’t understand from a developer point of view. If anything, it will be the iPhone that might be delayed.
