Battlefield 4 Xbox One VS PS4 final resolutions unsurprising

If the confirmation of 720p resolution for the Xbox One version of Call of Duty Ghosts compared to 1080p native on PS4 was surprising, we now have the final word on how Battlefield 4 will look like on paper as well – this one won’t be surprising however.

As most of you are well aware, DICE has been trying to keep this a secret for as long as possible. When specifically asked on the resolution, the developer has been reluctant to give a straight answer all throughout the build-up to launch.

However, now that the game is available to buy, technical analysis of the two next-gen versions have gone live with it and now there has been confirmation of the final resolution on Xbox One and PS4.

Apologies for those that have the information already, but for everyone that doesn’t – Battlefield 4 on Xbox One is going to run at 720p. As many gamers have been expecting, the game on PS4 hardware will run a lot better – with Eurogamer’s digital foundry confirming that the PS4 version outputs at 900p resolution.

When discussing this during their analysis, here is what they had to say on the matter:

“The PS4 offers a superior experience on several fronts. The resolution is higher at 1600×900, as compared to the tried and tested 1280×720 on Xbox One, suffering as it does for more visible aliasing artefacts. Visually, the PS4 has a marked advantage with ambient occlusion effects too, which simply isn’t matched on Microsoft’s platform with the build we played.”

If you had any previous doubts on whether DICE had specifically kept the PS4 version at a level-playing field with Xbox One for parity purposes, that quote above tells you all you need to know. The PS4 version is looking like the best version to own on console if performance really is the key ingredient for you.

With this coming on top of 720p confirmed for Call of Duty Ghosts as well, are we now starting to see a scary pattern emerge that the majority of Xbox One games will only be outputting at 720p, compared to higher resolutions on PS4?

Give us your reaction to Battlefield 4 having a superior experience on PS4 compared to Xbox One.
