Avengers Alliance: Spec Ops 12 details, possible release date

Although the disappointment over Season 2 in Avengers Alliance is still evident to see, the mood has changed somewhat with the arrival of Spec Ops 11, but also with the incoming wave of news thanks to the exciting San Diego Comic Con 2013 expo. Just like previous years, the event will be used to reveal new content for Avengers Alliance, and it looks like we may have a portion of that content to share with you early.

We see leaked content for the game all the time, but fortunately it looks like this particular information is as official as it gets. The Marvel games panel at Comic Con is not due to start until Saturday July 20, but thanks to some details posted at IGN, we now know that Spec Ops 12 will be centered around the Infinity comic book storyline – which means the arrival of Thanos in Avengers Alliance.

If you are a regular Avengers Alliance player, you’ll know that comic book tie-ins with the game are starting to become much more frequent. First we had the Avengers Vs Xmen event which unlocked Magik, which was then followed up by the Age of Ultron comic series which offered players the chance to recruit Hank Pym aka Ant Man.

Now we can tell you that Spec Ops 11 will be based on the Infinity comics, with the first issue due to go on sale on August 14. Now, information over at IGN suggests that Spec Ops 12 will be going live around the exact period that the comic does, which means that August 14 could be a good indication for when to start looking for Spec Ops 12.

One word of warning though – it’s not an official release date remember, just a guideline. Also, Playdom are not stupid enough to give out any official release dates it seems anymore after the Season 2 shenanigans, so just bear that in mind.

There’s also the matter of if Thanos is the primary villain in Spec Ops 12, then who is going to be the unlockable hero? Could we expect to see some members of the Guardians of the Galaxy perhaps? Now that would be interesting to see – Rocket Raccoon as a lockbox hero anyone? Give us your early predictions on Spec Ops 12 and what you would like to see in terms of the Infinity storyline.
