Audi R8 with NCAP over safety ratings

It looks like Audi are in trouble after their car sales got caught giving out misinformation regarding some of their top selling motors. It has become apparent that despite Audi representatives stating otherwise, the Audi R8, A5, A7 and A8 cars have not been tested on the road.

The Euro NCAP (New Car Assessment Programme) safety tests are considered to be the gold standard in terms of saftey and many consumers will check to see if a car has passed Euro NCAP procedures before considering a purchase.

Audi, who usually have a stellar reputation from car enthusiasts have now come under spotlight. An investigation by the BBC has revealed that Audi salesmen have been telling consumers that the models mentioned above have all passed this form of rigorous testing.

In actual fact though the Audi models have not been tested at all and it has forced Audi UK to make a grovelling apology. Here is a recent statement in relation to the issue from Audi:

“Audi UK wishes to emphasise that there has not been any deliberate intent to mislead on the part of its customer-facing staff where the Euro NCAP safety test performance of the Audi model range is concerned.”

For those wondering, it is not actually illegal for cars not to be NCAP tested. However, the fact that Audi salesmen have been telling consumers that they have been tested may be worrying to some of you.
