When computer product manufacturer ASUS first announced the ultra-portable U36 notebook back in 2010, there was no mention on when the handsome-looking device would be arriving in the UK. While consumers in the United States have been able to purchase the 13.3-inch laptop since December last year, UK residents have been waiting patiently for news on a release date.
We have some exciting news for our British readers now, as according to Joe Pollicino over at engadget.com, the ASUS U36 notebook is now available in the UK. One of the best things about the nanometer-coated U36 other than the fact that it is the world’s thinnest notebook to come with a standard voltage Intel Core i5 processor is the price, with the product being priced at £699 including VAT.
The U36 notebook comes with a sleek 19mm chassis and weighs in at 1.44kg, which as Khidr Suleman from v3.co.uk notes is a couple of millimeters thicker and around 10g heavier than Apple’s MacBook Air. The U36 notebook integrates ASUS’s Super Hybrid Engine technology, which will manage the device’s energy consumption based on what the user is doing at the time.
Although users are provided with up to 10 hours of battery life as standard with the U36, it does also offer them the ability to turn off the USB 3.0 functionality in order to gain an additional 1.5 hours of battery life. The device’s soft-touch nanometer coating makes it repellent of fingerprints, dirt and even water, while its chiclet keyboard will prevent the build of dust and makes it easier to clean.
The ASUS U36 also comes with a an ultra-light, soft magnesium alloy finish, an NVIDIA Graphics card with Optimus technology, which will ensure that both games and movies are delivered in a crystal clear quality, a 13.3-inch HD TFT display with a 1366 x 768 resolution, a 5-in-1 card reader, 500GB of storage and Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g/n) connectivity. The ASUS U36 notebook is available in a choice of either black or silver.
It is available to purchase now both in-store and online from Micro Anvika, and should be arriving in Comet stores before the end of this month. Do you like the sound of the ASUS U36 ultra-portable notebook?
