Asus Transformer Prime release delayed to 2012?

There are a number of people who are considering getting the Transformer Prime from ASUS, as the device looks a worthy alternative to Apple’s iPad. Earlier this month we told you that the company had announced the device would be available online on December 12th, and in physical stores a week later on the 19th. Now today we have reports that the ASUS Transformer Prime release could be delayed due to some Wi-Fi issues until 2012.

An article over at Phandroid is reporting the device could be unfortunately delayed until next year. A customer who had pre-ordered the Transformer Prime via online retailer NCIX and have now received an email about the order.

The email stated that they had been notified that the ASUS tablet PC has been delayed around the world, and is not likely to be released before Christmas. It goes on to say that the manufacturer doesn’t feel the Wi-Fi range is not up to their standards. This has led to a delay of all shipments and there is currently no ETA when the first batch will be available.

This will disappoint many if true especially as we are only two weeks away from Christmas, and there would have been some planning to give the Transformer Prime as a gift. Meanwhile the Inquirer is reporting that UK consumers can now pre-order the device. Online retailer Clove has the tablet PC available with stock expected in January.

It is expected to ship running Android Honeycomb but will be updated to Ice Cream Sandwich shortly after launch, but if there is much of delay ASUS may have it available straight out of the box. Have you pre-ordered the Transformer Prime?
