StuffMidEast recently got their hands-on a new product manufactured by Asus, this is a hybrid device which could easily be mistaken for a laptop or a tablet, in fact it is both.
Asus call this the Eee Pad Transformer, as the name suggests it can transform as either a tablet or laptop, the display disconnects at the hinge therefore when you do not want to carry the bulk of the keyboard and touchpad etc around you can just carry around the display, which is a fully-functionality tablet.
The device runs Android 3.0 Honeycomb and features a 10.1-inch Gorilla Glass display which supports a resolution of 1280 x 800, a 5 megapixel rear camera, a front-facing 1.2 megapixel camera, a dual-core Tegra 2 processor (capable of 1080p HD video playback), 2 x USB ports, WiFi, Bluetooth, a card reader, a mini HDMI port and Flash 10.2 support, as you can see its specs are impressive.
The product itself looks very well-made, if you head over to StuffMidEast and check out their hands-on you can see that in terms of build quality and design it is great, apparently it feels solid yet light, also they mention that there is a tactile pattern on the shell which ensures that the tablet will not slip out of your hands too easily.
The hands-on was very complimentary of Android 3.0 OS, the 3D stereo audio quality, the Asus Waceface UI and the fact that the the tablet allowed for up to 8 hours of usage, whilst when it is docked you get another 8 hours, pretty neat eh?
According to StuffMidEast the tablet will be available in two capacities, the 16GB variant will cost $550 and the 32GB model will cost $750, if you want the keyboard/touchpad/dock you will have to pay $850 for the 16GB model, no price was confirmed for the larger capacity variant.
Below we have embedded a photo of the Asus Eee Pad Transformer, as you can see the lid/display is a little thicker than most laptop’s displays, however you have to remember that the performance hardware is all inside here.
