Assassin’s Creed: Lost Legacy axed in favor of Revelations

The launch of Nintendo’s 3DS has seen a mixture of success so far, with the company managing to sell 400,000 units in its first week of release in Japan back in February. By the end of March it had launched around the rest of the world, bringing the total number of consoles sold to 3.61 million. However the sales seemed to have slowed recently as only 143,000 3DSs were sold last month.

Many game titles were announced for the 3DS when it launched also, the bestselling title at launch was Professor Layton and the Mask of Miracles, with 119,591 copies sold. One of the biggest and most anticipated titles announced for the handheld in the build up to the launch was Assassin’s Creed: Lost Legacy.

Today we have news that the title may actually be lost as in an interview with Joystiq, lead writer for the upcoming game Assassin’s Creed: Revelations, Darby McDevitt revealed that the concept of the 3DS version of the now forms the foundation for Revelations version of the game. The Lost Legacy title was first announced at E3 last year but has since slipped off the radar.

While it was thought that 3D games would account for 50% of the games on the market in 2012 according to Ubisoft, it seems that the Nintendo 3DS has not been prioritized as this report proves. Assassin’s Creed: Revelations is the console version that will release this November, which means a 3D version will have to be put on hold for now.

The concept of the game, which was originally for Assassin’s Creed: Lost Legacy but is now only for Assassin’s Creed: Revelations, sees players take the role of Ezio Auditore once more, though he has aged, as he embarks on a quest heading East searching for the lost castle at Masyaf. The game is the third and final installment in which Ezio is included.
