Many people were disappointed not to hear any news regarding the next iPhone or any other new hardware product at June’s WWDC event. But it has just led to more rumors and speculation, and today we have news of Apple’s supply chain with talk of the iPhone 5 and iPad 3 could be on sale in 3 months.
According to an article on AppleInsider by Katie Marsal, suppliers in Taiwan are getting ready and preparing materials for the start of production of the iPhone 5 and iPad 3. An October release date is spoken about and falls in line with earlier rumors that the iPhone 5 would be reveled in September.
Only one iPhone will be launched with the iPad 3 only recently added to the production schedule. There was talk of an even thinner and lighter tablet and an increase in screen resolution. No features of the iPhone 5 were given, and Apple is expected to make around seven million iPhone 5 units during the third quarter.
We have heard rumors of an iPad 3 before and comes after the last version was released in March. Apple has struggled to keep up with demand with the current version and Apple’s Tim Cook has stated before the company was facing “the mother of all backlogs”.
Rumors of what the iPhone 5 will be like have been going for ages; we have had talk of a larger edge to edge screen as well as rumors saying the device will be mainly the same. The iPad is likely to knock HP from its perch as market leader of notebook shipments next year. This will happen if the iPad is categorized as a portable computer according to an article by Sam Oliver on AppleInsider.
The company is expected to shift around sixty million iPads this year; this is out of a total of eighty million tablets. When MacBook sales of fifteen million are added to the total it would give Apple an estimated 75 million sales and 25 to 30 percent of the world market. This will compare to HP who are expected to shift between 45 and 56 million units.
Apple has already become the biggest PC seller in the US after the iPad was categorized as a PC in October of last year. Since then sales of Macs and iPads have continued to grow strongly. Many consumers will be disappointed to hear of another new iPad, especially if it’s much different or better than the current model.
Do you think Apple will release another iPad this year?
