Apple vs. Android phones after slow update schedule

When it comes to Apple and Android there are those who love them and hate them, and while they both have great things to offer, they also have their drawbacks as well. With Apple, it’s being a step behind, and while this is a tough pill to swallow for some of you, the fear of security issues is something of a concern for Android users.

Okay, so we are not running Android down, as overall the mobile OS is very good, but the Android phone update schedule is a little hit and miss, and according to Apple Insider has come under attack from ACLU, who has asked the U.S. Federal Trade Commission to step in.

It’s worth noting that Android is updated often throughout the year, but it takes far longer for carriers to implement these updates. It’s for this very reason why Apple vs. Android phones debate will always be dissected because of how different their schedules are. When there is an iOS update, all iPhones will get the update, unless there is one for a specific model. This is because the carrier does not handle the update, but rather Apple, as they have a greater control on their mobile OS, which is a good and bad thing.

Because there is a lag from when Google make an Android update available from when the carrier makes it available, there is a higher risk of hackers being able to gain access to your data. In the report it suggests that carriers slow to release Android updates are leaving their customers open to “substantial harm”.

Carriers cannot take all the blame, as the phone manufacturers have to make them work on their devices first, which then the carriers have to run compatibility checks with their networks, which is when customers often see a long delay.

Do you believe Android is a fragmented mess? Is the ACLU right to step in, or will these issues sort themselves out eventually?
