Apple TV 4th gen release may involve Time Warner Cable

Rumors of an Apple TV 4th gen release have been going around recently and it now appears that Time Warner Cable may be involved in the device’s future. Apple are supposedly trying to partner up with Time Warner to provide content for the potential media system.

The word is going round that Apple is currently negotiating with TWC and several other distribution partners, once deals are secured for video content then an announcement and release date will be looked at. Reports from Bloomberg suggest that if all goes well, the 4th generation Apple TV could launch as early as April.

It is widely expected that Apple will make the Apple TV brand a new category in their product lineup. CEO Tim Cook confirmed recently that 2014 would see new product categories, right now Apple TV is only considered an accessory, there has been speculation that gaming support will be added to the next gen set top box.

Apple TV 4th generation release and gaming expectations

Both Apple and Time Warner Cable have declined to comment on this news, the unsuccessful negotiations so far between the pair is what is supposedly holding the matter up. Getting Time Warner Cable on board would be a huge deal for Apple as it would add the opportunity for exclusive premium content that would be streamed from their device.

Some subscription apps including TWC would require authentication to prove you are already a member of the service, all you would need to do is log in using your customer username and password. Once you have verified yourself you can watch all of your content from wherever you are using your Apple TV. We expect to see hardware upgrades in addition to these new content partnerships that Apple are trying to make.

Are you hoping Apple launch a 4th gen set top box or are you holding out for something else?
