Earlier today we told you that the refresh of the MacBook Air could be imminent due to stock levels of the current version running low. But the Apple rumors explode today with talk of the iPhone 5, 4S and iPad 3.
Josh Ong of AppleInsider is reporting that an investment banker is suggesting Apple will start production of the iPhone 5 in August. This follows a visit to Taiwan, and a third quarter release date is again mentioned. After meeting with individuals of Apple’s supply chain analyst Katy Huberty of Morgan Stanley stated that work on building the iPhone 5 will start “in mid to late August and ramp aggressively”.
Huberty then said it will be available by the end of the third quarter which is in September. She also said that an Apple branded TV and cheaper iPhones could be in the pipeline. This is not the first time that a cheaper iPhone has been mentioned with rumors reported earlier in the year.
Another article over at CNN Money by Philip Elmer-DeWitt continues the talk of a cheaper iPhone. Chris Whitmore of Deutsche Bank has been telling clients that Apple will release two handsets, an iPhone 5 and iPhone 4S. He claims the time is right for Apple to move into the cheaper smartphone market as Nokia and RIM are both struggling. This could massively expand the company’s slice of the market.
Whitmore feels that if Apple were to release an unlocked iPhone 4S, and sell it for around $349 alongside a talk plan would see Apple reach a potential 1.5 billion new customers in 98 countries. In places like Africa and Asia iPhone customer base is low, and consumers prefer to pay for the handset upfront instead of being tied into a subsidized contract.
Meanwhile Cnets Rich Trenholm is reporting of rumors suggesting that Apple could have a 4G iPhone 5 and iPad 3. Recently hacking group LulzSec announced they were going to disband, but that was after one more hack where the group got hold of documents from AT&T. The documents revealed the networks plans for its LTE service.
The service also known as 4G and provides faster data speeds on your smartphone or tablet PC, and the iPhone and iPad were both mentioned in the documents suggesting they could both be 4G capable. Apple more than any other company always seem to get the most speculation regarding their upcoming products, this may have something to do with secrecy the company likes to have for upcoming models.
