Apple Pay spend limit cap expected for UK

Apple Pay is expected to go live this month, with Saturday being the most likely day, although we should know more tomorrow during the iPad event. However, the service will not be launched internationally until next year with the UK already in a great position to welcome the new payment service, especially as the country has one of the highest adoption rates of contactless pay in Europe.

From what we already know, there will be no spend limits imposed in the US for Apple Pay, which does throw up security concerns, although you will need you use Touch ID in order to make a payment, so far safer than contactless cards. However, there is expected to be an Apple Pay spend limit cap in the UK.

Apple Pay supported stores

The UK already has a maximum spend of £20 with contactless payments, and this is expected to continue with Apple Pay. However, one would presume this figure to rise due to Apple Pay being far more secure because you need to use your fingerprint while waving your iPhone 6 in front of the reader.

Having said that, all the Apple Watch requires you to do is double click the button on the side to make a payment, and so does not offer the same level of security as the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus.

VISA has already said they will offer support for Apple Pay in 2015, and with this in mind do you think the UK spend limit on contactless payment using this service should increase over the current £20?
