Apple Pay release date signaled by Walgreens

Using Contactless credit and debit cards makes life far easier, as does doing the same with your Android smartphone thanks to the use of NFC. However, both are not that safe because anyone can wave something in front of a device to purchase something, so it does not need to be you. Apple may be late to the party once again, but it is clear its Apple Pay service is far more secure, and people in the US might get to play around with the latest service on Saturday 18th of October.

A memo has been passed round internally at Walgreens, and it has signaled what could be the Apple Pay release date, as employees have been asked to prepare themselves for the upcoming launch of Apple’s new service. With it being this Saturday, that would mean it would be just two days after the event, which could see new iPads, the public release of Yosemite, along with an update to a device that has been long overdue.

Apple Pay release date

Mac Rumors points out that a Saturday launch is unusual, but what better day to put Apple Pay to the test when far more people would use the new payment service. However, the tech website also points out that the service could go live shortly after the 16th, and that the 18th is the day that Walgreens will launch its support.

With the rollout of the service expected soon, we have to wonder if the new iPad Air 2 an mini 3 will make use of Touch ID, although we highly doubt people will remove them from their bags in order to pay for items with Apple Pay – that would be funny though?

We know the likes of Walgreens, McDonald’s, Disney and of course Apple Stores will, but there is a huge lost of stores not yet prepared to support Apple Pay, which you can see for yourself here.

It will be interesting to see just how long we have to wait for Apple Pay UK support, along with other countries in Europe and the rest of the world?
