Apple MicroLED display for Apple Watch, iPhone rumors

We told you back in January that Samsung had announced the ‘world’s first’ MicroLED TV which was on show at CES 2018. Now we are hearing that Apple may be developing their own MicroLED display screens which could have a major impact on future iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch devices.

A new report from Bloomberg goes on record to say that Apple is ‘secretly’ making their own MicroLED technology and that the Apple Watch is going to be one of the first devices to make use of the new displays.

Currently Apple partners with Samsung who supply many of the components for iPhone and other Apple devices, so if true this could be part of Apple’s grand plan to distance themselves from relying heavily on Samsung once and for all.

MicroLED has the capability to make displays brighter and thinner, while crucially using less power than what the current standard with OLED offers.

Bloomberg’s report adds that Apple already has a centre set up in Santa Clara, California where 300 workers are currently working on MicroLED manufacturing.

Exciting stuff and the Apple Watch could be the first device to make use of the new technology should Apple successfully manage to get these to market.

Are you interested in the idea of new MicroLED display technology which could mean saving you money on energy costs each month?
