Apple iPad: Dinopedia App – Review

With so many new apps being released just before Christmas, you must be finding it hard to choose which ones to get. We have already reported on Battlefield, Quickoffice, Infinity Blade and Football Manager 2011. Now we are reporting on a different type of app.

Dinopedia is categorized as a “Book” and is only available on the iPad. For anyone who has an interest in dinosaurs then this would be a great addition to your iPad collection. It goes beyond any encyclopedia, with more than 700 dinosaurs present.

The app features fantastic art work of the dinosaurs, as well as amazing videos and great interactivity. It’s this type of app that can make learning fun. Dinopedia gives you information about almost every dinosaur known to man, it gives you size comparisons, facts and much more.

All of the artwork included in the app was completed with the assistance of Dino experts. However, interestingly, one thing that there is no concrete evidence of, is the color of the dino’s skin. The app will bring you the most up to date research from the dinosaur world as we continue to learn the details of their existence. Another great thing about this app is that you will get to find out the most common misconceptions surrounding dinosaurs.

Although the target audience is kids, there is no reason why dinosaur enthusiasts wouldn’t enjoy it. You only have to look at some of the feedback on the iTunes store. One user, philip_k, writes in his review, “This app is amazing. The illustrations are stunning, the stories are engaging, and the catalog of dinosaurs is endless. Must have for any dinosaur lover!”

If you want to go ahead and download the app, then it will cost you £3.49 or $5.99 but we really think it is worth it. For further information about the app, have a read of the preview on iTunes. If you want to learn more about the developers, the National Geographic Society, you can view their official mobile site here.
