Apple kept us waiting for a new iPad Air last year, and there is a small chance that we might not see the release of the iPad Air this year either. The reason for this is a recent news report suggesting that there could be three new iPads in 2017, and those are the 12.9-inch iPad Pro 2, a new 10.5-inch iPad Pro model and a low-cost 9.7-inch model, which must mean the Air?
The reason people assume this is because there has been a distinct lack of iPad Air third generation rumors, and therefore we do have to question if Apple are binding their time for its release? The thing is, we have seen a pattern emerge that iPad owners are not upgrading each year like they do with a phone, and so are making their tablets last two, maybe three years.
If this is actually the case, then it does make sense for Apple to release the iPad on a two-year cycle, but not three, as this is what would happen if they wait another year before the release of the iPad Air 3rd-gen.
However, speculation still continues about Apple actually retiring the iPad Air because of the 9.7″ iPad Model that was released earlier this year, although with rumors circulating that the 10.5-inch iPad Pro could replace the slightly smaller version, it does add a lot more confusion to the ongoing debate.
Personally, we feel that Apple will finally release the third-gen iPad Air in either October or November, as making people wait any longer for the cheaper model would be a bad move for them. As for doing away with the 9.7-inch iPad Pro and replacing it with a 10.5-inch model, we do find that hard to believe.
