Apple CEO Steve Jobs Takes Medical Leave

Last week the long awaited Verizon iPhone was officially announced, I must admit I was quite surprised that Steve Jobs wasn’t at the press event given its scale, however it may well have been due to illness.

According to a recent post on EuroGamer Apple’s CEO has taken medical leave of absence, while he is away the company’s chief operating officer, Tim Cook, will take over day-to-day operations of the company, that said Jobs will still be involved in the company’s major strategic decisions.

It is thought that the medical leave being taken is related to the pancreatic cancer which he was diagnosed with mid-2004, he received a liver transplant two years ago, however the road to complete recovery can be a long one.

At the moment it is unclear as to how long Steve Jobs will be away for, when he took medical leave in 2009 he stated that he would be back in the summer, however this time round Jobs did not give any indication of a return date.

It will be interesting to see if Apple officially announce the iPad 2 and the iPhone 5 whilst he is away, we are currently used to Steve’s iconic keynotes which usually stun the world, I just don’t think it will be the same without him.
