Apple App Store: Ten billionth downloader will win $10,000 iTunes voucher

Apple first launched its App Store back in 2008 and has seen it become a massive success. New applications are added daily with the number fast approaching the 400,000 mark. Now the App Store is about to reach another milestone with ten billion downloads fast approaching.

There is a download counter on the iTunes website, and shows the number fast approaching the ten billion mark. To celebrate this Apple will be giving away a $10,000 iTunes gift card to whoever makes that ten billion download.

Currently at the time of writing the counter is showing 9,850,268,805 downloads but is obviously going up at a quick rate. We could see the magic ten billion figure reached sometime today. Recent research found that the average iOS user has downloaded sixty applications on to their device, with thirty million being downloaded every day.

The App Store must be a good source of income for Apple, but there are a great number of quality free Apps to be had. Are you planning on downloading anything today? What would you purchase if you won the gift card?
