App Secret addictive but dangerous

There is app that is currently the subject of intense debate and possibly the app that could be driving social media enthusiasts away from the likes of Facebook, Twitter and Snapchat – if that was possible.

The app Secret for Android and iPhone has been available for many months, but only now is it starting to gain traction as more and more users become addicted by its different and anonymous approach to messaging.

The hook is that Secret – Speak Freely offers users the chance to communicate with others but without revealing their identity. Obviously the likes of Facebook and Twitter are all connected to a personal identity so you know who the message is coming from directly, but with the secret apps you don’t know at all.

While this could obviously be a very fun and engaging new way to satisfy one’s social media itch, we have already seen the negative side to the app – with some who are calling it a “paradise for bullying”.

Above are some of the reaction that we have seen in the last few days, including a link to an ongoing petition asking Apple and Google to remove the app from their respective marketplaces.

Is it really getting out of control though? The creators of the Secret app are trying to improve their anti-bullying measures as we speak, with algorithm methods to identity keywords more effectively to combat the issue.

If you have been using Secret on a daily basis, let us know your thoughts on the app so far. Do you agree that it is a haven for bullying, or do you have no problems with the app whatsoever?
