It has recently been revealed that The Huffington Post has agreed to sell itself to AOL, according to a recent NYTimes article the deal is costing AOL $315 million, not bad for a new website which launched back in May 2005.
From what we can see AOL will pay $300 million in cash and the rest in stock, AOL hope that the deal has the potential to create an enterprise which will attract 100 million visitors a month in the United States, despite The Huffington Post being a relatively small website which started as a blog it currently attracts roughly 25 million visitors per month.
The deal will see Arianna Huffington (one of the website’s founders) take control of all of AOL’s editorial content, she will be pretty busy as she will oversee AOL’s local, national and financial news along with being heavily involved with Moviefone and MapQuest.
Ms. Huffington recently commented on the acquisition and said that it will be like “stepping off a fast-moving train and onto a supersonic jet”, Arianna also said that they are still heading towards the same direction with the same goals and the same people at the wheel, however they will now get there much faster.
