Although Android OS Gingerbread was initially thought to be set at version 3.0, some recent turn of events has suggested that Gingerbread could actually be known as Google Android 2.3.
Firstly, Gingerbread has now been made official by Google as they have released a video, showing off a huge statue of a gingerbread man next to the current Froyo statue outside their campus.
While it is thought that Gingerbread could still turn out to be 3.0, a statement by a Google employee has revealed some very interesting news. Here is a direct quote from the Android support Forums:
”Yes, Android 2.3 is a “major release”, and this patch will be available then.”
The only other major release we’ve heard about after Android 2.2 Froyo, is Gingerbread so this does make things very interesting.
If the speculation is true, what version will Honeycomb stand at? Let us know your thoughts on this.
