Android Market now offers eBooks – Google Music Service next step?

Google’s Android Market is the Android device owners’ answer to Apple device owners’ iTunes. So far the offerings are limited to apps, games and now eBooks but could soon be offering music and movies also.

Google have just updated their Android market site, adding a ‘Books’ tab which joins their existing ‘Android Apps’ tab and Slashgear are suggesting there is room for two additional tabs that could include movies and music.

So far the new e-Books selection is only available on tablet devices running Android 3.0 Honeycomb but can also be browsed using the internet version of the Android Market. It is also supported on the Sony Reader eBook and the Nook from Barnes & Noble as reported by Mobiputing.

Using the ‘Books’ section to buy eBooks works the same as if you were buying an app. Click the tab where you will find the books divided into 20 categories with the ability to further filter buy top free, top selling and new arrivals. You can check it out here for yourself at Android

The new addition to the tabs and suggestion of a movies and music one coming soon just adds to rumors that Google will soon have their own music service. There has already been speculation that Google are planning to launch competition for Apple’s iTunes as Android community reports. Do you think Apple should be worried? What are your thoughts on the new eBook availability to the Android Market?
