Android better than Apple in some aspects – Steve Wozniak

When he isn’t buying the latest Apple or even Android products, Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak usually has some very interesting things to say about how things are going in the industry. It’s been a while since we last heard from Woz but we’re pleased to say he’s now in the limelight again for some particularly interesting comments on the rivalry between Apple and Android.

It is no secret that Wozniak loves his Apple products, but at the same time he is also an avid user of Android smartphones despite founding Apple with Steve Jobs back in 1976. He even traveled to Google’s campus direct to be one of the first users of the US version of the Galaxy Nexus smartphone, this coming just weeks after he was first in line to purchase Apple’s iPhone 4S in October.

This week he has spoken out though in an article published by TheDailyBeast, revealing that he believes Google’s Android operating system performs better than Apple in some areas, with Woz even going as far to say that he wished Apple’s iPhone did all of the things that Android does. He specifically mentioned the voice features and navigation aspects of Android that outperform Apple, and continued to say that Android is ‘way ahead of Apple’ in these departments.

He also had some criticisms of Siri as well, by saying that Apple’s new new technology failed to pick up certain commands which Woz needed, whereas Android handled the same task without any problems. That’s where the criticisms end though, as Woz has drawn a line between the two operating systems by maintaining his opinion that the iPhone is still his ‘primary phone’.

These latest comments from the big man are likely to raise one or two eyebrows within the Android and Apple community, but its still refreshing to see from our point of view, Wozniak’s blatent honesty – almost speaking as a neutral smartphone lover with his expert experience as an engineer respected by both sets of fans.

As an iPhone owner, what do you make of Wozniak’s criticisms of voice and navigation features on iOS?
