Android 4.4.4 update without new features

With just days to go until Google I/O 2014, it looks like we have some interesting news for consumers with a Nexus device. We have only just had the Android 4.4.3 update, but out of nowhere we can confirm that a Android 4.4.4 update has now gone live for some users.

Unfortunately though, it looks like the random nature of this update has landed with good reasons. Android 4.4.4 is only a minor update and reportedly does not contain any new functionality or features for consumers to enjoy compared to Android 4.4.3.

Some Nexus 5 owners have already received the Android 4.4.4 update, so those of you with a Nexus device may want to brace themselves for an imminent OTA notification.

Confirmation of the update arriving can be seen in the Tweet below from the XDA Developers, who also reveal that factory images, driver binaries and source code are available for the Android 4.4.4 update too.

As far as we’re aware, the only Android 4.4.4 update notes are new security patches – nothing else for the moment. Hopefully this speedy update to Android 4.4.4 is an indication that Android 4.5 will be the update that will give Android users some brand new features to play around with.

Google I/O is next week, so we could have more answers then. For now, let us know if you are already running Android 4.4.4 on your Nexus device. Are you still waiting for a notification in your area at the moment? Don’t forget to check device settings to push the update manually.
