Android 4.4.4 update for Sony Xperia Z1 live

We have a quick heads-up for those of you with the Sony Xperia Z1 handset. We are pleased to see that Sony are delivering on their promise of frequent Android updates as the Xperia Z1 Android 4.4.4 update is now live.

If you are still on Android 4.4.3, you can now update manually by performing the following steps: Settings > About phone > Software updates > System updates.

You should find that a new Android update to version 4.4.4 is available and will begin downloading over the air. If you choose to install via this option then obviously make sure you are on a WiFi connection to avoid problems – alternatively though, you can also install with a cable hooked up to your Z1 with Sony’s PC Companion software.

Once you have installed, you will be able to enjoy “updated and improved camera experience” according to Sony’s official Android 4.4.4 update notes. The company has also said that there will be improvements to the Google voice, Contacts, Music streaming and Google+ apps.

As the world prepares for Google to disclose more information on Android L, it’s great to see Sony keeping up with the rest of the pack in ensuring that handsets such as the Z1 are on the latest software.

Let us know if you have already updated, either by automatic notification or if you had to go into settings manually.
