Google’s new version of their Android OS 2.2, titled Froyo is now official and was given a detailed briefing at the company’s I/O event. We have word from HTC who are reassuring customers that they’ll get the 2.2 update on their new handsets soon.
As reported from BGR, the announcement of Android 2.2 Froyo means that handsets such as the HTC Incredible on Verizon and HTC Desire and Legend are all running outdated software, despite being relatively new on the market.
Furthermore, the upcoming HTC EVO 4G on Sprint will release with Android 2.1 Eclair, with owners starting to panic on whether or not they will receive the update to Froyo or not.
HTC has issued a statement, in which they reveal that phones released in 2010 will all most likely’ be getting the update to Android 2.2 along the way. Specific handsets mentioned include the HTC Droid Incredible, HTC Desire, HTC EVO 4G and the upcoming MyTouch Slide 3G.
They quoted a Q2 release period in 2010 for the update, but didn’t go into specifics on a date. Let us know your thoughts on this. It doesn’t look good for those of you with slightly older HTC handsets, or those which have only just received the 2.1 update – i.e, the Sprint Hero.
