AMD Radeon HD 6790: Gives NVIDIA’s GeForce GTX 550 Ti some competition

The release of the NVIDIA GTX 590 saw AMD’s Radeon HD 6990 get shown up somewhat at least on paper. But they did not waste time in trying to better their competition and are now reportedly readying the AMD Radeon HD 6790.

According to the article at NordicHardware the new hardware from AMD is set to take on NVIDIA’s GeForce GTX 550 Ti in a battle of the mid-range GPUs as it has a Barts LE core which is based on the Radeon HD 6800 range of GPUs.

The HD 6790 is packing 1GB of GDDR5 memory, 256-bit memory interface, 32 ROPs and 30 texture units, an 850MHz GPU frequency and 10 stream units for 800 processors. It will also support 1.34 TFLOPs max performance with a 33.6 Gtexel/s texture fillrate.

The card is expected to launch April 5th and will most likely be priced at $150. More details can be found in the full article by clicking the link above which also features a chart where AMD’s latest GPU is suggested to be placed at the low-end of the Radeon series.
