AMD Fusion APU Officially Launched: Impressive Tech Specs

AMD has officially launched its new Fusion APU series, these chips combine a CPU and GPU into a single die and will be used in devices such as tablets, netbooks and notebooks etc.

The AMD Fusion APU series are said o be capable of DirectX 11 graphics, 1080p HD playback, 2D to 3D conversion, UVD3 video acceleration, also the low power consumption should allow for up to 10 hours of battery life.

You can find out all you need to know about the AMD Fusion APU here, it is thought that we will begin seeing AMD Fusion-based devices at CES 2011, some of which will become available immediately.

AMD has unveiled four Fusion APUs so far, these are the E-240, E-350, C-50 and C-30, the E-Series APUs (Zacate) are intended for mainstream notebooks, small form-factor desktops and All-in-Ones, whilst the C-Series chips (Ontario) are designed for HD netbooks and similar devices, perhaps even tablets. It will be interesting to see which manufacturers decide to utilize the AMD Fusion platform, with great performance claims the chips undoubtedly seem to fit in with today’s needs of high processing power and low power consumption, I’m sure the potential of this new platform will feature over the next few days at CES.
