Alfalfa Sprout Recall: Linked to an outbreak of Salmonella

We have another recall for you, this time it involves alfalfa sprouts which are labeled and packaged as Caldwell Fresh alfalfa sprouts. The recall is for an outbreak of Salmonella Newport infections in consumers in Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Illinois, Missouri, New Mexico, Nevada, Oregon, and Wisconsin.

The sprouts are found in 4-ounce plastic cups, and one pound plastic bags. Two and five pound plastic bags that are in cardboard boxes with stickers on that have the printed words “Caldwell Fresh Foods”. California Exotics brands alfalfa sprouts – 5-ounce plastic clamshell containers, Nature’s Choice alfalfa sprouts – 4-ounce plastic cups are the affected lines.

The sprouts were found in Wal-Mart and Trader Joe’s stores, and in a variety of restaurants and delicatessens. Salmonella is a bacterium which can cause abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea and vomiting. Anyone who might have consumed these products and are experiencing any of the symptoms should get medical attention.
