A trio of iPhone releases for 2013 a cause for concern

It doesn’t take a genius to work out that Apple will release a new iPhone sometime this year, although we have no idea when, even though Q2 has been rumored. There have also been rumors to suggest that Apple could release a cheaper iPhone, again this is mere speculation. However, there are now reports to suggest that Apple could release three new iPhones in 2013, so should we be concerned?

The first of these is rumored to be called the iPhone Math (which we doubt the name) and will come with a larger 4.8-inch display and an 8-megapixel camera. No other details were given in the article, such as specs of this phone, but it’s not the only handset. The next will be the iPhone 5S, again this will stick with the 4-inch display, but we would assume that a few hardware upgrades would be made.

Finally there is said to be a third iPhone but this one will come with a 12-megapixel camera and will be released by the end of the year. While iPhone rumors are nothing new, we have to say that we are shocked by this one because if true (we highly doubt it) then this is a cause for concern because it shows that Apple are getting desperate.

Having said that, Apple need to do something in order to counter their fall from grace in the smartphone market. When Apple first launched the iPhone back in 2007 it was the first of its kind and was a game changer, and this continued for a few years after. However, in that time their rivals were releasing countless new smartphones for all markets, while Apple just stuck with the one new model each year.

Even though the iPhone hardware always seems to be one step behind it’s the software that’s outdated the most. Each year a new iOS is released and offer iPhone users something that Android users have been enjoying for years. So why some consumers would welcome Apple releasing three new iPhones this year to cater for those with varied budgets, they need to come up with a radical change to their software as well. Personally we believe that Apple should skip the iPhone 5S and release the iPhone 6 with a major upgrade instead, unless they wish to release the 5S as a low-cost model.
