Earlier today we looked at 9/11 conspiracy theories that were contained in apps for iOS devices, and what some of our readers may think about these conspiracy theorists as well as their memories of that day 10 years ago.
Now in part of our “remembering 9/11” articles, we wanted to look at how the world’s media are helping broadcast the events today, and the 9/11 memorials taking place around the world in what seems to be an amazing tech and news collaboration.
Most of us know how social networks have changed the way we digest news, this has really been shown over the last year with Twitter and Facebook keeping people updated on the London riots, also enabling them to share their point of view as it was happening. There have also been negative uses of this technology, with the rioters themselves planning via social networks and BlackBerry Messenger. This is just one story and we’re sure you know many more that have used social networks in your part of the world.
Social networks have been highlighting the September 11 2001 attacks with events taking place today, some of which are explained in this article, although we’ve seen much better digital media collaborations that help remember the 9/11 anniversary. These include a partner ship between YouTube and the New York Times, which has created one of the largest multimedia packages online today. This project has highlighted user submitted videos of 9/11, NYT featured videos, and a lot more.
It’s not just the above two powerhouses creating microsites that showcase 9/11 memorials, we’ve seen collaborations between The Washing Post and PostSecret, and 9/11 memorial and Yahoo!
These companies and brands have come together with a common goal, to help remember and report how the first 10 years of the war on terror have gone, with extensive graphics, video, and data that uses the latest in online technology mixed with the best in media.
