$79 Amazon Prime Service, another headache for Netflix

If Netflix thought that they were in trouble now following their recent decision to split their service, then just imagine how tough things will be now that Amazon has now made a number of improvements to their $79 Prime Service? The new deal, which is to begin this fall will see them add around 2,000 movies and TV shows from Fox.

This new deal could be a huge headache for Netflix; it’s as if they are struggling to keep growth within the company, while Amazon keeps bringing improvements all the time. With talk of the service having tight integration with the Kindle Fire tablet (which we will discuss in a later post) the new content will certainly get all the publicity that it needs.

WSJ reports that some of the new content coming to the Prime Service from Fox includes shows like 24 and movies such as Speed — so not the latest and greatest then? However, knowing that the service will now see a content increase for around 22 percent will be a positive for current and future users. Amazon has no worries about admitting that this new deal has been brought in to compete with Netflix — but is it enough?

We cannot see any reason why not; just look how far Amazon’s Prime Service has come in just 12 months, as they have doubled the amount of content that was available. For those interested in the service, then $79 per year and unlimited two-day shipping on purchases seems a fair deal to us. In other related news, Netflix has now signed a huge deal with Dreamworks. This will now allow customers to start streaming their movies, such as Shrek, Madagascar and many more.

There are some amazing facts regarding Amazon Prime Service, such as it looks to be growing by 20 percent each year, there are currently 5 million members, and that 92 percent of those using the service plan to renew when their membership comes up for renewal.
