4th generation Apple TV update possibility intensifies

The Apple TV is long overdue for an update because the current generation was released back in March 2012, although a revised version was released towards the end of January 2013. This would mean that it is time for the 4th generation Apple TV, but as ever, everything we know is based on rumors.

Rumors of a new Apple TV for 2014 can be found all over the Internet, and while some of them are not very good sources, from time-to-time we find a gem. The latest rumor found on Wall Street Journal suggests that Apple are currently in talks with Comcast and Time Warner.

It would seem the topic of conversation would be for Apple to offer live streaming of TV shows, as well as DVR recordings. This will be over a managed connection, which would mean there will be no bottlenecks, something that is a huge issue when streaming is involved. This kind of thing is nothing new because this is very similar to how you get your content on demand via the Xbox 360.

This deal sounds simple on the face of it, but you have to wonder how customers will gain access to the content, as it is uncertain how they would log in to the service.

With this latest rumor comes suggestions that Apple should go it alone and create their own cable company seeing as though the door has been left wide open for them to do so. Having said that, with Apple still holding back in terms of Apple TVs progression, we have to wonder if this is ever likely to happen?
