It looks like the 4K projector price point isn’t there yet, and certainly not low enough to justify an upgrade to a new projector being purchased within the last couple of years. We have looked at the current 4K projector prices and spoken directly with Product Reviews readers looking to upgrade, although a 4K projector has reached a new low price in 2014 but still leaves room for bigger drops in the coming year.
If you want one of the best 4K projectors, then you couldn’t do much wrong by selecting the Sony VPL-VW1000ES 4K Home Theater ES Projector that currently sells for around $25,000 on Amazon. This price point is certainly way above most shoppers, but you will be at the forefront of a projector resolution revolution. You will get a native 4K resolution of 4096×2160 and a dynamic contrast ratio of 1,000,000:1, which also benefits from SXRD technology.
Our readers should also note that Sony has a cheaper option in the VPL-VW600ES/VW500ES and these projectors will deliver a native 4K experience for under $15,000. These 4K options might stand more chance of meeting budgets along with delivering some of the best 4K projector pictures around right now.
The lower 4K projector price point – we touched on JVC’s X500R, X700R, and X900R projectors last year that feature 4K inputs. It is worth pointing out these options feature a “4K-like picture”, so this might not be something some people desire if looking for the best native 4K resolution. What was new about these JVC projectors is the fact they accept a native 4K signal.
Entry level 4K projectors will be found for under $5,000 and deliver a much needed upgrade to an ageing projector, but as one Product Reviews reader put it “I currently own the Panasonic PTAT6000E that I purchased just under 2 years ago, so while looking for a 4K projector it became clear that 2014 is not the year to purchase. There’s two reasons for this in my opinion, one is that true native 4K projectors cost way above $5,000 and second is that I’m concerned about where the native 4K content is coming from. We might see 4K Blu-ray and enough native options in 2016, but certainly this year we don’t have enough native 4K content to warrant a purchase and at the right price point”.

In our opinion, the end of next year will be the ideal time to purchase a 4K projector with a number of 4K source options becoming available over the next year and prices expected to drop even further for native 4K. We are already hearing about future 4K TV channels.
