Google Pixel 2 XL Screen burn-in leads to cancellations

Google has only just released their latest flagship phone, but it looks like there could be some problems ahead for the company after numerous complaints from owners that there is a Google Pixel 2 XL screen burn-in problem.

For those wondering exactly what is Screen burn-in on smartphones, this can happen when a section of the display has the same imagery long enough to cause a ghost image of it to stick to the display screen and make it visible even after you have moved the display screen to something else.

You can see evidence of this below in the Tweet from Android Central’s Alex Dobie, while multiple Pixel 2 XL reviewers have also confirmed that the device has suffered from burn-in problems after only a week’s usage.

The issue is obviously a serious one as it has prompted Google into an official statement which you can see in full below:

The Pixel 2 XL screen has been designed with an advanced POLED technology, including QHD+ resolution, wide color gamut, and high contrast ratio for natural and beautiful colors and renderings. We put all of our products through extensive quality testing before launch and in the manufacturing of every unit. We are actively investigating this report.”

It’s no surprise to see that this has led to widespread panic amongst Pixel 2 XL owners and perhaps more importantly those who have an order in progress as you can see from one example below.

For those that have a Pixel 2 XL on hand, are you suffering from any screen burn-in problems as well? We will update you when we have heard some more information from Google regarding this.
