Ataribox release date hype with video

By Alan Ng - Jun 19, 2017

There is a lot of excitement in the air at the moment, with the revelation that Atari is back making video game hardware in the form of the Ataribox.

It was confirmed recently by company CEO Fred Chesnais, although little other details are known about the system other than that it will feature wooden materials echoing that of the iconic and original Atari 2600 console released back in 1977.

At the moment, we don’t know the Ataribox release date but we can see that there is a lot of hype on social media from fans who would still buy this machine in an instant if it promises a throwback to the retro game scene.

Elsewhere, there are some skeptics who say that the Ataribox launching in this generation amongst the PS4 Pro, Xbox One X and Nintendo Switch is a strange choice.

Enjoy the teaser video below of the Ataribox and check back soon for more details on when it will be available. Atari has already opened an official website at which you can visit also.

That Atari 2600 is not the original 2600, but the revised “cheapened” one. The original had six of those toggle switches on the top of the council, not the four shown here. It will be interesting to see if they make it again since they have not really done anything since Nolan started the company with his first home game system.
