There is one very exciting feature coming with the PS4 Pro 4.50 firmware update, one which Sony did not initially reveal in their 4.50 preview.
This is the PS4 Pro ‘Boost’ option, which enables games without a PS4 Pro patch to be to be given a CPU clock speed boost which will allow for smoother gameplay on some PS4 games.
This will help games that were released on the PS4 before the PS4 Pro was introduced and thanks to beta testers we are already hearing some fantastic reports that certain games are seeing immediate results.
Some of the games that will benefit from the new boost mode include Bloodborne, The Evil Within, Just Cause 3, The Witcher 3 and more.
The example shown above is from The Evil Within just to give you ideas, while there are videos included below which show the boosts on The Witcher 3 and Bloodborne.
As far as we’re aware, this doesn’t boost non-60FPS games to 60FPS but it does give FPS boosts in places where you may have noticed drops when playing on standard PS4 build.
This has huge potential as you can imagine and Sony’s 4.50 firmware could be the one which gives the PS4 Pro a much greater incentive to buy.
Will this give you the push you need to upgrade? Once we have confirmation of what the boost does exactly, in technical terms we will update you with more examples.
