Land Rover Defender resurrected for 2017 release?

The next-generation Land Rover Defender is not due to go on sale until 2018 or 2019, although it will be a far different vehicle to the iconic and much-loved model. However, all is not lost, as there is a chance that the iconic Land Rover Defender could be resurrected in 2017, or thereabouts.

It’s only been six months since the last Land Rover Defender rolled off the production line, and this seems something chemical tycoon Jim Ratcliffe feels sad about – along with seeing a potential investment.

According to a report in The Sunday Times, Ratcliffe has been in talks with Jaguar Land Rover in the hope of reviving the much-loved off-roader – although we are uncertain how far these talks have gone.

Very little is known about these talks, as it’s uncertain if he is looking to purchase the intellectual property or just parts of the production line.

What we do know is, if we are to see the good-old Land Rover Defender resurrected, then certain changes will need to be made, such as with emissions – as this is the very reason why Jaguar Land Rover had to finally end production because they were finding it hard to get the iconic model to meet those new, strict emissions rules.

Not only that, but a few changes will need to be made to also meet with modern-day crash regulations; but we have no way of knowing how he can do with the 68-year-old Defender that Jaguar Land Rover could not?
