Galaxy Note 7 with Android 6.0.1, 6.1 or Nougat confusion

There seems to be a little bit on confusion in terms of what version of Android the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 will be running upon its release. We had presumed that it would be Android 7 Nougat, but 6.0.1 and 6.1 have been thrown into the mix – yes you did read that latter version correctly.

So why would we say this when we already assumed that the Galaxy Note 7 was said to come with Android 7? Well, a recent GFXBench listing shows a variant of this upcoming handset running Android 6.1 – and that’s the confusing part because Google have already announced that Nougat will in fact be Android 7 and not another numbered version.

Galaxy Note 7 with Android 6.1

We already know that Android 6.0.1 is already available for many handsets, and so was obvious that some testers would be running this version on Galaxy Note 7 test models – but that does not explain 6.1.

Ok, so Google could be coming up with another minor Android update, but surely that would be 6.0.2? The thing is, we are very close to the release of Android 7 Nougat, so why on earth would Google release any other version?

There are some websites, such as GSM Arena, who suggests this handset could actually be a Samsung Galaxy Note 7 Lite, and so therefore will be showing different specs, but how does this explain those conflicting Android versions?

Anyway, let’s try not to dwell on this too much, as we do not have very long before both Google and Samsung will make things much clearer, with both the new mobile OS and handset due for release next month.
