2016 Nexus 7 update should not compromise on specs

The 1st generation Nexus 7 was released in 2012, with the 2nd-gen following the year after, and since then there has been no sign of a refreshed model. It’s the same story for the Nexus 10, although there has been a Nexus 9 in that time, but many Android fans still hold on to the hope that Asus will finally release a new model for 2016.

Google may have deiced to forget about the Nexus 7 and 10 because of dwindling sales, but there have been talks that Google could finally resurrect the Nexus 7 for 2016, and we are certain this would be a welcome decision.

Times have changed since the 2012 and 2013, and so the 2016 Nexus 7 specs would need to reflect this, and so Asus, or whomever Google would get to build the new tablet will not be able to compromise on those specs, as the iPad mini has raised the bar.

2016 Nexus 7 update

Many Nexus 7 fans will buy a new one in a heartbeat if it came with at least ten hours of battery life, stick with the same size, although have a thinner bezel, weighs less than the previous model, improved cameras to adapt to the selfie generation, which would still be ideal for a small tablet, and also have a faster processor to be able to take the fight to its rivals.

Ok, so we know that it will not be able to fully compete with the iPad mini, not if the third generation Nexus 7 still tries to come in at no more than $250, which could be a tall order if so many changes are needed.

While there is still no proof that one is being worked on, there have been rumors to suggest that a new Nexus 7 could be announced during Google I/O, which is set to take place on May 18. However, looking back at last events, Google does not usually release new hardware and is more about software, much like WWDC in that respect.

Would you welcome an all-new Nexus 7 this year, and if so what features would it need to become relevant once again?
